The Horsleys, made up of East and West Horsley, are two quintessential Surrey villages neighboring each other yet diverse in character set on the edge of The Surrey Hills.
East Horsley the larger of the two villages is famous for the flint built buildings designed by Lord Lovelace in the 19th century most notably Horsley Towers a large home built for his own occupation set in magnificent grounds of 70 acres which in recent years has been converted to a conference centre.
In the 1930’s the village significantly expanded with many private roads and houses built by Frank Chown utilizing oak joinery, with clay tile and thatched roofs. At this time the two main shopping areas were created as was the station and the village now is a thriving community with a wide range of independent shops, a supermarket, banks, Post Office, doctors surgery and public library.
West Horsley has many delightful period homes in addition to more modern housing most of which are easily accessible to the facilities of East Horsley. There are fine schools covering both villages in the state and private sectors, together with a wide range of leisure and sporting amenities including golf, tennis, cricket, football and badminton for the sporting enthusiast, two reputable theatre groups, dancing, keep fit and bridge clubs.
On the edge of the village the Sheepleas offers many miles of walking and riding trails all set within the Metropolitan Green Belt. The A3 and M25 are just a short drive away, which combined with the Horsley rail station makes the villages ideal for the commuter or for those who require easy access to Heathrow and Gatwick Airports.
